Choosing a Provider

The National Association For Information Destruction Says:

“NAID ‘EM”

Ten Revealing Questions To Ask Any Provider Before Hire:

INFORMATION SECURITY

  1. What type of shredding services do you offer?

There are two types of shredding services. Mobile shredding means all confidential materials are shredded mobile – Shred Works offers highly secure, on-site and Plant-based shredding services. Plant-based shredding means that all materials are brought back to the company’s facility for shredding. If your organization requires that you witness the shredding process, then you should choose on-site shredding. If you’re looking for a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly option, then Plant-based shredding is your best choice.

Shred Works offers highly secure, on-site and Plant-based shredding services.

  2. Are you AAA Certified by NAID?

The National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) is the watchdog of the shredding industry. They act as an independent auditor, checking a shredding company’s compliance in 22 critical areas, including everything from shred size to employee background checks. NAID awards their highest rating, “AAA Certified,” to only a select few shredding companies that offer the highest level of information security. In fact, of the 125 shredding companies operating in California, only 33 have been AAA Certified by NAID. But buyer beware! Many unscrupulous shredding companies will claim to be AAA NAID Certified just to get your business. Check their website for the NAID AAA Certified logo to be sure.

  3. Do you offer proof that you actually perform employee background checks?

All shredding companies will say they perform employee background checks. But why take their word for it? Ask for proof that an independent auditor has reviewed both the background checks and drug tests of all shredding company employees that will come in contact with confidential information.

Shred Works submits to ongoing audits of their employee background checks and drug tests, by the National Association for Information Destruction. We must pass every audit to maintain our AAA NAID Certification.

  4. Do you “double shred” for added security?

When you only shred once, sometimes confidential materials can literally fall through the cracks.Documents for On-site shredding customers are shredded first on the on-site shredding truck and then again through the plant-based shredders.

All documents for plant-based shredding customers are double shredded through shredders at our main facility. The end result is 100% destruction, with a confetti-like output that can never be read or reassembled by anyone.

Shred Works “double shreds” all confidential materials.

SHREDDING CUSTOMER SERVICE

  1. Do you offer an “On Time or Shred Free” service guarantee?

You can’t afford to hire a shredding company that misses your pickup day. Because that means your security containers may be overflowing, putting your confidential information at risk. Insist that your shredding company offers an “On Time or Shred for Free” service guarantee.

Shred Works offers an “On-Time or Shred for Free” Service Guarantee. If we miss your regularly scheduled appointment, we’ll shred your confidential information for free!

  2. Do you guarantee next day service?

Whether your security bins are unexpectedly full or you have a storeroom that requires an immediate cleanout, eventually all organizations will have a need for emergency shredding services. Unfortunately most shredding companies don’t have the scheduling flexibility to offer this service.

Shred Works has 22 trucks covering the entire bay area alone. So we can afford to respond to any customer with a last minute shredding need. Just call before noon and we guarantee we’ll pick up all your confidential materials no later than the next business day.

  3. Can you shred more than just paper?

Many shredding companies use outdated equipment that can’t shred anything but paper. That means someone may have to sift through your containers and remove paper from the binders. There is a much easier and more secure way.

Shred Works uses four different types of shredders so that they can shred almost anything including paper, plastic, microfilm, X-rays, CDs, hard drives, clothing and even many consumer and commercial products.

  4. Do you provide Errors and Omissions Insurance?

All shredding companies provide some General Liability Insurance to protect their customers, although most limit this protection to $1,000,000. However only a select few offer Errors and Omissions Insurance, which guarantees reimbursement for losses if your confidential information is mishandled while under a shredding company’s care.

Shred Works exceeds industry standards with General Liability Insurance coverage of $2,000,000, as well as Errors and Omissions Insurance.

PRICE

  1. Do you provide transparent pricing?

Most shredding companies will quote you a low, low entry price just to get your business and then slam you with price increases year after year.

Shred Works has a Price Guarantee. Simply stated the competitive price per unit we estimated for your service based on the information you’ve provided is the price you’ll pay, no hidden fee’s!

  2. Do you give your regular service customers discounts on purges?

Customers who receive on-going service from their shredding company, should get a better price on annual file purges than a one-time customer. Before choosing a shredding company, ask what kind of “purge discount” they give their regular customers.

Shred Works gives a 20% purge discount to all our regular customers.
